Aberporth – People in Wales say ‘No’ to Perfecting War

Cymdeithas y Cymod (Wales Fellowship of Reconciliation) made a pilgrimage to Aberporth, Ceredigion in June. Parc Aberporth was built with over £13 million of taxpayers’ money and is where unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs or drones) and their spying and tracking equipment are being perfected for use by arms companies, on behalf of the British army. The group were joined by CND Cymru, Bro Emlyn Peace and Justice Group and Cardigan and North Pembrokeshire Amnesty International Group. The service and vigil was led by Cymdeithas y Cymod President, Guto Prys ap Gwynfor, Robin Gwyndaf and Eirian James.

The use of unmanned drones as weapons of war in conflicts around the world has been called into question by one of Britain’s most senior judges. Lord Bingham, a former senior law lord, said that they are ‘cruel as to be beyond the pale of human tolerance’.
