The US is preparing to upgrade its nuclear weapons based in Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy and Turkey, and the UK government has agreed – without discussion in parliament – to having US nuclear weapons based again in the UK, at RAF Lakenheath, Suffolk.
US nuclear weapons were based in Lakenheath from 1954 until 2008, when the last 110 nuclear bombs were withdrawn.
US nuclear weapons do not make us safer: they make us a target, and they tie us in to US foreign policy. Deploying more US nuclear weapons in Europe during Russia’s war in the Ukraine only increases tensions between Russia and Europe.
The US is the only country in the world to locate its nuclear weapons outside its own borders.
We must stop US Nuclear Weapons from returning to UK soil !
Lakenheath Alliance for Peace is alliance of over 40 organisations, including CND Cymru, was launched on Tuesday 26th March 2024 with 12 protestors giving in a letter to the USAF Lakenheath base commander to tell him that US nuclear weapons were not wanted in the UK.
An International Protest Camp is going to happen from 13th to 25th July 2024 and then we will see what happens afterwards!
JOIN US for a 3 day walk and train, 13th to 15th July, from Norwich to USAF Lakenheath and then set up camp and a 24/7 vigil at the base until 25th July. Lots of activities and actions are especially planned for 16th and 20th July. Come on those days if you can’t come for any other days.
