This week, people in Wales will join with others all over the world in remembering the 65th anniversary of the August 6th 1945 devastation of Hiroshima and of Nagasaki on August 9th 1945 when US atomic bombs were deliberately dropped on the people and their homes in those two Japanese cities.

Cymdeithas y Cymod (Wales Fellowship of Reconciliation) made a pilgrimage to Aberporth, Ceredigion in June. Parc Aberporth was built with over £13 million of taxpayers’ money and is where unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs or drones) and their spying and tracking equipment are being perfected for use by arms companies, on behalf of the British army. CND Cymru is calling on the Government to make the easiest and most far reaching cut of all – to scrap the current nuclear weapons system.

Nurturing Peace Former MEP and Flemish Peace Institute President Nelly Maes and Director Tomas Baum will be in Wales next week (February 23 and 24) to give evidence to the National Assembly in support of a 1,500 name petition calling for a Wales Peace Institute. On February 15th about 30 Welsh protestors including CND Cymru Chair Jill Evans MEP joined the hundreds blockading the nuclear weapons factory at Aldermaston, England. We had been allocated the Aldermaston AWE Construction Gate along with ‘bomspotting’ and other internationals.

Peace activists from all over Wales are preparing to take part in a non-violent blockade of Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) Aldermaston on February 15th.

The 640 sq mile zone will overfly a large area of West Wales inhabited by approximately 50,000 people.

Over 1500 signatures calling for the creation of a Peace Institute in Wales will be submitted to the National Assembly
